Music, Egypt, & Community
Todd Marcus, Bass Clarinetist and Composer
Reception 1:00 - 1:30 pm
Enjoy a look at how the work of bass clarinetist/composer Todd Marcus has worked to present his music as a jazz musician as well as integrate influences from his Egyptian heritage and work as a community activist. In a program that will feature live performance, discussion, videos, and photos, Marcus will share about his work as a musician and how he’s found ways to incorporate non-musical aspects of his work to find greater depth in his art. The presentation will include an overview of Marcus’ work and demonstration of how he has approached the process of using instrumental music without words to present material that offers musical storytelling about Egypt and as his West Baltimore community where he is a co-founder and executive director of the nonprofit Intersection of Change.
