Contemplative Spaces in Modern Architecture
Aneta Georgievska-Shine, Professor of Art History, University of Maryland
*** Special Time*** 11:00 AM EDT Reception 10:30 - 11:00 pm
This lecture investigates how Marcel Duchamp shaped the trajectory of modern art by championing the intellectual concept over visual aesthetics. By looking more closely at several seminal figures from the middle of the twentieth century, we shall see how his unconventional ideas influenced a number of artistic movements, ranging from Pop Art to Minimalism. Moreover, we shall see why the radical framework he established over a century ago continues to influence artists of our own time.
