Members’ Day Trip: A Philadelphia twofer: Duchamp and PAFA

Thursday, October 29, 2026

8:00 AM–6:00 PM

In-person members’ program

Meeting location: Meadowood Parking Lot, 10650 Falls Road, Lutherville-Timonium, Maryland 21093

Join ASG on a visit to two renowned Philadelphia art institutions. At the Philadelphia Art Museum we will tour the first major U.S. retrospective dedicated to Marcel Duchamp in more than 50 years! ASG members will explore the extraordinary range and arc of this pivotal artist’s career. Approximately 300 works of painting, sculpture, film, photography, printed matter, exhibition design, not to mention those unclassifiable works known as readymades, elucidate Duchamp’s radically new definitions of art and the artist.

Following lunch on our own, ASG will move on to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) for a tour of A Nation of Artists. This exhibition marks the reopening of the historic landmark building, a masterpiece of nineteenth century architecture by Frank Furness and George W. Hewitt. As the first structure in the U.S. designed specifically for both exhibition and art education, its legacy as a museum and school for artistic innovation continues. At PAFA, the exhibition is curated thematically, grouping artworks to explore new ideas, connections, and interpretations. These dynamic juxtapositions will encourage visitors to appreciate centuries of American art through a powerful, new lens.

Bus trip, museum admission, guided tour of both exhibitions, snacks, and wine included.

Members-only registration through October 1, open to subscribers and guests, if trip is not full, on October 2 (limited to 50 people). Fee $150 for members; $165 for non-members. Full refund before October 1. No refund after October 10.
