In-person members’ day trip
Travel with ASG to the heart of Philadelphia to view over 200 works by more than seventy artists in Dreamworld: Surrealism at 100. The exhibition is part of an international celebration of Surrealism, initiated by the Centre Pompidou to mark the centenary of the publication of Andre Breton’s Manifesto of Surrealism. The Surrealists sought to confront what they saw as a ‘crisis of consciousness’ in art by seeking new techniques for exploring human creativity and astonishment. The exhibition offers a chronological view approach that is divided into six thematic sections. The Philadelphia venue includes a unique section focused on artists who fled to Mexico and the U.S. during WWII.
After perusing the surrealist imagination and other works at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, ASG members will travel by bus to visit Calder Gardens, the exciting new installation of the mobiles and stabiles of Alexander Calder. We will have time to explore on our own after the guided tour and before climbing back on the bus to Baltimore.
Bus trip, museum admission, guided tour of Dreamworld, snacks, and wine included.
Members-only registration through December 31, open to subscribers and guests if trip is not full on January 1 (limited to 30 people). Fee $145 for members; $160 for non-members. Full refund before January 1. No refund after January 8.
