Hybrid in-person and online program via Zoom
When you think of “touch” in an art museum, probably the next word that comes to mind is “don’t”! Countering that expectation, curator Virginia Anderson will share insights into the research, planning, and dialogues going into an upcoming exhibition at the BMA that is based on the bold premise that touch — and the idea of the tactile — has played a far more central role in the making and reception of American art than has previously been acknowledged. From Mary Cassatt’s intimate depictions of mothers and children in close embrace, to Yoko Ono’s emphasis on touch in her interactive and politically charged artworks, Anderson will offer perspectives on select works planned for inclusion in an exhibition, scheduled for Spring 2027.
