Glenstone Museum, located in Potomac, Maryland, integrates art, architecture, and landscape into a holistic setting for thoughtful engagement with contemporary art. The presentation will begin with an overview of Glenstone’s art collection and public program, situating the museum’s mission within the context of its support for postwar and contemporary artists. Two case studies will be offered on the work of pioneering land artist Michael Heizer, focusing on the realization of his monumental site-specific works at Glenstone—Collapse (1967/2015) and Compression Line (1968/2015). The presentation will trace the complex, years-long process of bringing these ambitious works to fruition, emphasizing Glenstone’s steadfast dedication to fulfilling Heizer’s exacting vision.
