For more than 25 years, Bill Caine has worked as a fine arts specialist for the federal government’s Art in Architecture program at the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in Washington, D.C. In this lecture, Bill will discuss the history of GSA’s Fine Arts Collection and present some examples of the commissioned projects by leading American artists that are installed and on view at federal buildings in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and hundreds of other locations nationwide. Among the artworks featured will be Ellsworth Kelly’s Boston Panels (1998), Alice Aycock’s Swing Over (2004) and Jean Shin’s Dress Code (2008) in Baltimore, Catherine Opie’s Yosemite Falls (2016) in Los Angeles, and Alyson Shotz’s Robes of Justitia (2021) in Nashville.
