ASG SUMMER POP-UP MEMBERS' PROGRAM: COLAB Curator's Tour
Join ASG for an exclusive reception and gallery talk with Hilary Pierce, Curator of the audible art exhibition "COLAB: Art and Music from Baltimore and Beyond" on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm at The Eubie Blake Cultural Center at 847 North Howard St. Baltimore, MD.
COLAB features the work of notable African American Artists on loan from important private, foundation and gallery collections including the private collections of former Driskell Center Director, Curlee Raven Holton, MICA Curator Emeritus, George Ciscle, The Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art, Galerie Myrtis and Goya Contemporary Gallery.
Pierce selected 38 works that span the arc of African American Art from 1975 to now, exemplifying the diverse approach to style, subject and medium within the genre, with 30% of the artists exhibited in COLAB from the Baltimore/Washington region. Works by internationally known American artists Jacob Lawrence, Sam Gilliam, Sonya Clark, Alison Saar, Samella Lewis, Joyce J. Scott, Norman Lewis and Curlee Raven Holton are exhibited alongside notable Baltimore artists such as Jeffery Kent, Tom Miller, Megan Lewis and Devin Allen; as well as emerging artists Ziggy Sayeed and Greg Bannister.
COLAB is co-curated by music professionals from a wide range of musical genres from jazz to classical, rock, pop, Latin and opera. The 18 invited Music Collaborators led by celebrated Jazz Trumpet player Sean Jones, of Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins, include Grammy Award winners Louis Cato, Dianne Reeves and Marcus Allen, and former Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Conductor, Marin Alsop and Maryland Opera Artistic Director, James Harp. Each Music Collaborator reviewed the works selected by Pierce and responded with Spotify Tracks to create an audible soundtrack for the exhibition, and they also provided content to explain their music selections.
The result is an unprecedented audible art exhibition that engages and expands our understanding of visual art, and adds deeper layers of meaning and resonance for the viewer/listener.
Please bring your own Bluetooth Listening Device to fully experience the exhibition. The Gallery will be open to the public from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. For more information: www.eubieblake.org
