This lecture explores the life and art of Artemisia Gentileschi, the most celebrated female painter of the Baroque era, who transformed the "Caravaggesque" style into a visual language all her own. By examining her journey from a determined young apprentice in Rome to the first woman admitted to the prestigious Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence, we will uncover how she navigated a male-dominated art world to become an international sensation.
