IN-PERSON PROGRAM
Join ASG to visit MICA’s ArtWalk and see the incredible work of their students in one of biggest displays of visual art in the city. MICA’s campus is transformed into gallery space to showcase MICA graduates’ extraordinary artistic talent. In addition to viewing unique one-of-a-kind artwork by the nation's most talented emerging artists, ASG members will hear from MICA Faculty Victoria Rose Pass for a lecture titled, Strange Glamour: Elsa Schiaparelli. This lecture will explore the work of couturier Elsa Schiaparelli through the lens of Surrealism. The Italian designer was a pioneer of avant-garde fashion and worked with artists such as Salvador Dali, Man Ray, and Meret Oppenheim. While she’s often described as capitalizing on the surrealism as a trend, she was in fact deeply engaged with the aesthetic philosophies of Surrealism, including the uncanny and convulsive beauty. Her work challenged traditional notions of femininity through these aesthetics and pushed the boundaries of fashion and art. She influenced many subsequent generations of designers such as Cristobal Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gauliter, Alexander McQueen, and Thierry Mugler as well as Daniel Roseberry who now leads her house.
