Haydn’s Cello concerto in C Major was presumed lost until 1961 when archivist Oldřich Pulkert discovered a copy of the manuscript at the National Museum in Prague. This magnificent work quickly became a staple of the cello’s repertoire. In the early 1760s, when this was composed, the cello’s star power had barely begun to blossom, yet Haydn created a masterpiece for this unlikely solo instrument, filled with vivacious energy, soaring melodies, tender yearning passages and wild virtuosity,

Cellist Evan Drachman and pianist Wan-Chi Su will discuss and perform this concerto along with other gems for the cello.
